Eyebrows were raised last year when the publishers of the new Airline Passenger Experience magazine announced that the man in charge of the launch was to be Jonathan Norris, formerly with Airbus. So a definite change of career for Jon but one that seems to have paid off. The new magazine is an impressive publication which this week gained further kudos with the news that the APEX Media Platform, which includes the magazine, blog, weekly newsletter and various social media channels has been shortlisted for the new British Media Awards in the Business 2 Business Innovator of the Year category. (The winner will be announced on April 26th). So what promoted the move from manufacturing aircraft to publishing a magazine. Find out as Steve Harvey talks to Ink’s Executive Director for Trade Media and Events, Jonathan Norris.

Julia Lewis – BBC

Combine the words in-flight entertainment and the BBC and the name instantly springs to mind is Julia Lewis. Since the mid 80’s, Julia had attended countless WAEA conferences and TV markets promoting top rated BBC shows like Top Gear and Life On Earth to airlines. Then quite suddenly earlier this year, Julia made a life changing decision to take an early retirement to spend more time with her two children, Alice & George and to catch up with friends and family. In this PME Interview Julia talks about her introduction to the BBC and to in-flight entertainment and what happened when she became trapped in an elevator with two of Britain’s top comedians!

Steve’s guest this week on the PME Interview is the somewhat larger than life figure of Mr. Eric Kleiman, formerly Director of Product Marketing at Continental Airlines and now CEO of Kleiman Enterprises (www.kleimanenterprises.com). During a long and illustrious career, Eric achieved many firsts for Continental so industry eyebrows were raised when the news broke that Eric and airline would be parting company. In today’s interview Eric talks to Steve Harvey about his time at Continental, the circumstances of his departure and what the future holds now.

John White – Editor, Avion

After more than twenty years editing Avion magazine, John White has finally announced his retirement. Holder of the prestigious WAEA Lifetime Achievement Award, John was a founding father of the organization back in 1979 helping to create the original bylaws that have determined to this day how the association is governed. He and his wife Martha are familiar faces at industry events such as the annual exhibition and industry workshops. Although he made the decision to retire much earlier in the year, he kept the news confidential until the AGM in Long Beach. This interview was recorded earlier in the year prior to that announcement.

Jeffrey O’Rourke – CEO, Ink

In a relatively short space of time Ink has rocketed from nowhere to become one of the world’s leading publishers of inflight magazines. Indeed their web site boasts that their in-flight magazines have reached around 800 million travelers since January 2008 as well as a whole range of media that helps companies connect with travelers – including magazines, boarding pass advertising, inflight retail publications and the Airline Retail Conference.

With offices in London, Singapore, Atlanta and New York, CEO Jeffrey O’Rourke has plenty of time to peruse in-flight magazines as he jets around the world seeking to expand his publishing empire still further. He did however take time out to talk to Steve Harvey for this exclusive PME Interview.
